When Harry Met Sally Casting Announcement

Posted: 07 December 2009

One of the best-loved romantic comedies is making the jump from screen to stage at the Opera House, Manchester, from May 10 to 15, 2010.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY continues to be one of the most popular romantic comedies more than two decades after it hit the big screen starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. The smash hit 1989 film directed by Rob Reiner spawned dozens of memorable lines and the burning question: ‘can a man and woman ever really just be friends?’

A new tour of the stage production of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY opens in Spring 2010,

21 years on from the year of the film’s release, starring Sarah Jayne Dunn as Sally (Mandy Richardson in Hollyoaks, also Boeing-Boeing, The Vagina Monologues) and Rupert Hill as Harry (Jamie Baldwin in Coronation Street). Further to the 2004 West End production and 2005 UK tour, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY opens at The Theatre Royal Wakefield on Wednesday 3 February, receiving its national press night at Windsor Theatre Royal on Tuesday 9 February before embarking on an extensive national tour through to June.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY spans a dozen years - the hilarious tale of two New Yorkers and the friendship that develops between them as they date (other people rather than one another!) and share the trials and tribulations of relationships.

Warm and wonderfully witty with all the wisecracking sassiness you’d expect, this irresistible comedy has been faithfully adapted from the much-loved Academy Award winning film. The play features music by Ben Cullum and his brother, the jazz sensation, Jamie Cullum.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY is adapted by Marcy Kahan from the film script by Nora Ephron. Directed by Michael Gyngell (The Play What I Wrote, Summer Holiday), designed by Tim McQuillen-Wright (Spring Awakening), with lighting by Ben Cracknell (Jolson & Co). Further cast to be announced.
